We had a fun day on the Green Zone yesterday.
Amid the Pie Day debates — how can anybody actually eat strawberry-rhubarb pie? — I was accused of sniffing paint thinner and over-drinking because I’m starting to think the National Hockey League should allow shootouts to end playoff games.
I watched one of the most entertaining games of the season one night earlier when Calgary beat Pittsburgh 4-3 in a shootout. What a game! Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin against Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. Outstanding hockey! Great goaltending!
It went through a five-minute period of three-on-three, complete with a penalty that set up a four-on-three. When the overtime didn’t solve anything, some of the world’s best players participated in a shootout. It wasn’t like that game in Norway that lasted eight overtime periods. This one had an ending. It was enthralling. It’s something the NHL should try in the playoffs.
And cherry pie is the best!
