The Riders best option now for 2018 is most definitely Brandon Bridge.
The young Canadian quarterback has shown the athleticism and arm strength to win games in the CFL. He came off the bench a few times last season to save or nearly save games when Kevin Glenn struggled.
With James Franklin more than likely to sign with the Toronto Argonauts after a trade, there aren’t many realistic options out there that make sense as Riders GM and head coach Chris Jones seems unwilling to spend big bucks for quarterbacks unless they’re named Mike Reilly.
But Bridge is in the best spot to be the boom or bust option for the Riders, especially if Kevin Glenn sticks around in his traditional role as the security blanket, or insurance policy.
But there is one wild card and that is a trade and restructured deal for Hamilton Tiger-Cats QB Zach Collaros. The beleaguered quarterback doesn’t appear to be in the long-term plans in Hamilton and he has a history working with Jones’ coaching staff in Toronto.
It’s only December 12 so there are a lot of dominoes to fall, but the Riders better be ahead of it because the QB carousel turns during the CFL off-season as evidenced by Monday’s trade.
