A Regina man spent New Year’s Eve in police custody after being tased by an officer.
Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, officers saw a man openly carrying a knife on Fifth Avenue at McTavish Street.
When officers approached the man, he covered his face and reached for the weapon.
According to police, the taser was used because the man was resistant and would not listen to the police commands.
The 31-year-old was taken into custody following a short physical altercation.
He was taken to hospital for assessment and eventually released into police custody.
Now the suspect is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was released and is set to appear in provincial court Feb. 12.
