While Humboldt Broncos assistant coach Mark Cross will be laid to rest in Strasbourg Saturday, his old senior men’s hockey team, the Lumsden Monarchs, will continue honouring him next weekend as well.
A Mark Cross Sports Memorial Fundraiser is being held at the Lumsden rink next Saturday.
Monarchs defenseman Andrew Perrault is one of many helping to organize it and said his team, along with the rest of the Highway Hockey League, chose to host the event to keep Cross’ legacy alive.
“What we wanted to do is ensure that we remember Mark in the best light that we could and bring people together to celebrate him and the rest of the community,” Perrault said.
The fundraiser will include a 50/50 draw, a live and silent auction, a raffle and live entertainment.
Perrault said they’ll have buses leaving from the Northgate Mall to the Lumsden rink starting at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday, then to drive people back to Regina starting at 10 p.m.
The program for the Mark Cross Sports Memorial Fundraiser starts at 7 p.m.
Admission is a donation of $10.
