This Month’s Community Champion:
Dani Halvorson – nominated by Jon Claggett
Dani is an incredible human being who continually puts the needs of others before herself. She runs multiple fundraisers per year under her own fundraising efforts known as Money For Melons. She has focused many of these fundraising events around local cancer organizations and has raised thousands of dollars so far. She’s also actively involved the lgbt community as both a drag performer (Caesar Melons) and as a volunteer. She mentors a group of younger lgbt kids, helps with drag workshops in smaller communities, volunteers at events to help with everything from set up to bar tending to performing. She’s also a photographer and has lent her talents to a wide variety of events often doing it as volunteer work. Whether they be staff functions, fundraisers, or local events she will be there with a camera clicking away. She’s a mother and grandmother. She works two jobs. She continually provides support to other groups/fundraiser by either sponsoring prizes for raffles or silent auctions as well as attending the events. She’s an animal lover and donates prizes and time to various animal rescues in the city and also uses her part time job at a petstore to help source deals for rescues. Dani is super supportive of her friends, family, acquaintances, co workers and the lgbt community in every way she can. She’s the true definition of a giver and one of those people who daily is striving to make this world a better place. She was the first name that came to mind when I saw these nominations come up and I think she is super deserving of this award as it is a small reflection of the gratitude our community owes this individual.
