The Saskatoon Blades were 7-3 winners over the Swift Current Broncos in the first game of a home-and home series on Friday night at Credit Union Centre.
Saskatoon's Darren Dietz tied a WHL record for most goals by a defenceman by scoring four times and two of Dietz's markers came 29 seconds apart in the third period.
Only seven other defenceman have accomplished the feat in WHL history, including Braydon Coburne, Richie Regher and Ron Greschner. Brett Stovin, Matej Stransky and Travis McEvoy scored the other Blades goals. Coda Gordon scored twice for Swift Current.
The Blades are now one point back of Kootenay for fourth spot in the WHL's eastern conference.
The Blades visit Swift Current on Saturday night.
