A man is in custody after placing a frightening 911 call from the rural Meadow Lake area Saturday night.

Edward Shears called to say there was someone dead in his home, but it didn't end there. He elaborated that he was going to shoot her.

"There was some mention about the victim in this conversation was not dead, he sort of changes his mind; she was not dead, but he was going to shoot her," explained RCMP Constable Doug Boxall.

It turned out there was a woman in the house at the time, but she fled to another building in the yard then when RCMP arrived she ran from the house to them.

"We gained contact with her over the phone and we have a GIS section here, that member was in contact the whole time with her," Boxall said.

Officers arrived at the scene and talked to Shears for about two hours to convince him to give up. When they arrested him they found several guns in the house.

"Basically the subject refused to give up then he exited one more time and we had members in place and we were able to take him into custody without any incident," he said.

52-year-old Shears is to appear in court Tuesday facing 6 charges including: resisting arrest, possession of a restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, assault and two counts of uttering threats.
