The end of the line has come for the old Provincial Laboratory in Regina.

The building opened in 1958, but the new Saskatchewan Disease Control Laboratory has left it empty for almost two years.

Government services minister Laura Ross said the old lab will start coming down in a couple of weeks to make way for new landscaping and a parking lot.

"To fit within the Wascana Centre's mandate of 'any vacant building would be returned to greenspace'," explained Ross.

The project will come in at just under $5 million, and will include a new loading dock and a better heating system for the rest of the building.
