Royal Bank alerts RCMP to theft from client accounts
Moose Jaw RCMP continues to investigate a series of thefts at the Royal Bank in
Eyebrow, Saskatchewan that involved a former bank employee.
Royal Bank
confirms the employee was fired after allegedly stealing money from client
accounts in April 2011.
The theft was brought to the bank's attention
through fraud detection software, said Andy Wolske RBC's regional vice-president
for Saskatchewan South.
"We had an immediate investigation, including
speaking with the employee who was immediately placed on leave," Wolske
said.
"After the thorough investigation they were terminated."
All
employees are screened before they're hired, which includes both criminal and
credit checks, he said.
While RCMP are investigating there have been no
charges laid yet, said RCMP spokesman, Cpl. Rob King.
"We can't confirm
any suspects because it's part of the investigation," he said.
Wolske
wasn't able to say how much money was stolen, but a source told News Talk Radio
one man temporarily lost $93,000.
"Less than 15 people were impacted,"
Wolske said.
"And all the funds were reimbursed, including interest
prior to the end of May."
