Study on possible Upland Canal project for south Sask
The Upland Canal project could change the landscape of Saskatchewan along with how we get water but it is a long way from getting started.
They've studied where it should be and what it should look like but there is no start date yet for the major canal which would provide water for Regina, Moose Jaw and meet the needs of the surrounding areas.
Deb Thorn with the South Central Enterprise Region said the need for water is huge and we have a solution in Lake Diefenbaker.
“Compared to Alberta, our province has not tapped into the full potential of Lake Diefenbaker,” Thorn said.
The next step to bringing water in from a canal will present the real challenge to find out what it would cost to build and assess the other possible impacts.
The canal would run about 80 kilometers bringing water from Lake Diefenbaker to Buffalo Pound.
