"Stuff Saskatchewanians Say" viral video
The latest Saskatchewan viral video has people talking about how they talk.
The YouTube video “Stuff Saskatchewanians Say” was posted late on Wednesday but it already has more than 240,000 views. It might be full of stereotypes and references to beer but it seems to be ringing true for a lot of Saskatchewanians who are passing it on through social media.
“Did you say wheat, did you say flax, canola, was that barley,” the video continues with references to the province’s biggest exports. “So what is potash?”
The provincial spin-off on the international viral video “Stuff Girls Say” was the work of Dale Richardson, Chris Stoicheff, Nathan Howe and Derek Wilson who all went to high school together in Sasktoon.
Howe said he hadn’t seen his friend Dale in a few years but he quickly got on board with the idea when he got a message on Facebook from Richardson.
“He and Chris got together and wrote some lines and Derek and I got together and came up with some ideas,” Howe described the collective effort. “We threw them all together and found a friend with a camera.”
They filmed the three minute video in one day, spent two weeks editing it and posted it online February 1. Howe admitted they were rushed to finish the video and post it before someone else beat them to it.
There is something for nearly everyone in the video with references to everything from strange town names, “roads are slippery all the way to Climax,” to endless shovelling and the weather “cold enough for you?” Roughrider fan quotes like “come on Durant” and “it’s like 2009 all over again” referring to the thirteenth man – also made the cut.
The group called out the cell phone issues across the province from a few months ago with repeated complaints about having no service.
Howe said they have a lot of leftover material and with feedback there could be a sequel on the way.
