A major expansion of Saskatoon’s water treatment plant is complete.
On Monday, officials were on hand to celebrate the completion of the $77-million project which included a new four storey facility on Avenue H.
The project expanded the capacity at both the Avenue H and 42nd Street reservoirs which combined, now have a capacity of nearly 72-million litres of water.
The additional capacity allows the city to store enough drinkable water to fill almost 29 Olympic sized swimming pools.
New lift stations at each reservoir will improve efficiency and reduce operating expenses. A new ultraviolet disinfection facility located in the Avenue H facility will be an added line of defense in the water treatment process, stated a release from the province.
Officials said the expansion ensures good quality water that will meet the city’s water needs now and into the future.
