A hockey tournament and a visit from a two time Stanley Cup champion highlighted Scotiabank Community HockeyFest in Regina.
The Queen City was one of many cities across the country to hold events for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday.
At Evraz Place, hockey fans gathered for the Prairie Cup – a midget AA tournament – and a chance to meet NHL alumnus Marty McSorley.
Kevin Baron brought his daughter out to meet McSorley, as they both share a love for hockey.
“I’m in my late thirties, so it was hard to not be an Oilers fan back then and I remember watching him play,” said Baron. “I got to go and see one game in Edmonton, but all in all it was a draw for me as well as it was for her.”
His daughter Elise spent the day on the ice and participated in dry land training, but also wanted to meet McSorley and ask him a special question.
“I’m going to get my jersey signed, and I might ask him a little quick question… If he played with Mario Lemieux, because my favourite team is the Pittsburgh Penguins.”
McSorley won 2 Stanley cups with @EdmontonOilers & played 17 #NHL seasons. If you’re in #yqr you can meet & get an autograph with him! pic.twitter.com/wsFVJqBjDS
