Regina transit workers show support for Winnipeg driver killed on job

City of Regina buses are showing support for a man killed on the job in Winnipeg earlier this month.

From Saturday to Tuesday, buses sported a black ribbon in honour of 58-year-old Irvine Fraser, a Winnipeg bus driver who was attacked on the University of Manitoba campus.

“In support of that, we have put ribbons on our exterior of our buses on the driver side mirror, just to show support to Winnipeg transit and the fallen operator there,” said Brad Bells, the city’s director of transit. 

While the fatal attack in Winnipeg has raised alarm bells over operator safety there, Bells said he hadn’t heard any of his drivers feeling unsafe behind the wheel.

“I think it’s more of a brotherhood and supporting that, again, we have a Canadian operator in service that was killed and again, just showing our support for that,” Bells said.

A funeral will be held for Fraser on Tuesday.
