Saskatchewan RCMP have launched a sudden-death investigation after a 30-year-old man’s drowning death in Lake Diefenbaker.
Police said Outlook RCMP received the report of a “water-related death” on the lake around 4:45 p.m. on June 6, in a release shared Monday afternoon.

In a call with the RCMP’s Outlook detachment, Sergeant Mark Langager shared that the incident involved two men on paddle boards who both fell off their boards. Neither were wearing life jackets.
“One man was able to make it to shore and the other drowned,” Langager said.
Officers and local EMS responded to the scene. A man was recovered from the water the next day, on June 7, by the RCMP’s underwater recovery team. He was declared dead at the scene.
Langager said the search began the next day because of darkness.
“It was dark by the time we would have been able to get the dive team out, so we started really the next morning with the search,” he explained.
The deceased man has been identified as a 30-year-old from Saskatoon. His family has been notified.
The investigation has been assumed by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
“This is considered a sudden death investigation. As there is no element of criminality, we will not be releasing any further details,” RCMP stated in a release.
