Summer fun can start early with a dip in the swimming pool at George Ward Pool in Saskatoon, though another location’s seasonal opening has been pushed back.
The opening dates for Saskatoon’s outdoor pools have been shuffled a bit after mechanical issues forced the city to delay the opening of its Lathey Pool.
While the Lathey Pool on Taylor Street East was set to open on Thursday, the city said that has been delayed due to “unforeseen mechanical issues.”

In order to avoid leaving swimmers high and dry, the city said the George Ward Pool on Fifth Street East will open on Thursday, a few days earlier than planned.
“George Ward will operate on a temporary schedule until Lathey Pool becomes operational, after which it will return to its regular schedule,” the city said in a statement.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The city’s Riversdale Pool on Avenue H South opened to swimmers on Friday, while the Mayfair Pool on Avenue F North is set to open on Monday.
The city said updates on the Lathey Pool’s opening will be posted to its website as the repair work progresses.
