Regina’s Cornwall Centre mall was locked down for a time on Saturday afternoon after police received a call about someone carrying a gun.
Regina Police Service (RPS) said in a news release on Sunday that the call at 5:22 p.m. on Aug. 15 regarding a possible firearms offence brought a heavy police presence to the 2100 block of Saskatchewan Drive.
RPS said officers found people with “cap guns” and deemed the firearms offence callout as unfounded, but also said in the release the investigation is still ongoing.
Police did not say how many people were involved and did not disclose their ages.
The Cornwall Centre re-opened on Saturday night.
In June, RPS SWAT team and officers with the Downtown Safety Team, including Alternative Response Officers, got together with Cornwall Centre security for a joint training exercise at the mall.
Police said at the time that the training would explore several different public safety scenarios specific to the location.
