RCMP Corporal Gina Slaney says that there are maps of the search area at the centre, which is set up in the Crowsnest Sports Complex in Coleman, and that it’s specifically for people who know the backcountry.

Darius Macdougall was last seen a week ago while walking with young family members in the Crowsnest Pass area.

Slaney says it’s hoped that people who are highly familiar with the area may shed light on possible places the boy may be.

The Mounties got a call Thursday at around 6:40 p.m. that the man was missing. He had last been seen about an hour earlier on Franklin Avenue in Yorkton.

In an update Friday morning, the Mounties said the man had been found safe.

On Sunday evening, police said the boy had been found safe. No other details were provided, including when and where the child was found or if any charges are expected.

The Mounties said the man, who hadn’t been seen since he was in Cudworth on Thursday, had been found safe and sound.

The RCMP didn’t say where the man was found.

Police earlier had found the woman’s three-month-old son, who also was reported missing.

Police said their investigation into the incident is continuing.

According to a letter presented at Saskatoon’s most recent Board of Police Commissioners meeting, the team’s 48 active members logged 1,850 search hours over 17 different searches in 2022 – a record number of hours for the group by a large margin.

According to the group’s website, the year that came closest to 2022 was 2018, when 788 hours were logged.Carla Eager, the group’s communications director, said SSAR was called out 17 times last year, with most of the calls occurring during the summer.

“We were up at Red Earth First Nation (searching for a missing boy) for a good chunk of time, (and) we were a part of the search here in Saskatoon at Chief Whitecap Park with Dawn Walker,” she said.

The team also helped search for a missing mushroom picker near Smeaton, Eager added, and members travelled to Granite Lake Campground to help find a missing camper.

Eager said SSAR is deployed only after a request from the RCMP or Saskatoon police.

The team also sticks exclusively to ground searches, although members can work near rivers or lakes as well.Some of the searches in 2022 overlapped with one another.

In other cases, Eager explained, they were made aware a day or so in advance.

SSAR hasn’t had any calls so far this year, although Eager said team members are ready to go at a moment’s notice.”We could be called out at any time, but it’s been a quiet start to 2023,” she said.

Mackenzie, then age 22, left her home in the 300 block of Trent Crescent on Dec. 21, 2020, and has not been seen since.

Since then, investigators have released video surveillance and followed up on numerous leads but continue to search for information that will locate Mackenzie.

Police have a person of interest, but the man approximately 5-foot-3 in height has yet to be identified.

“Investigators have pursued leads relating to the company-branded clothing being worn by the man and found no relevant connection,” police said in a media release.

At approximately 1:58 p.m., a Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) plane located a body approximately one kilometre east of his vehicle that got stuck in the snow Tuesday afternoon. Crouch was with another man who managed to walk to safety.

In a release, the RCMP said officers travelled to the location and confirmed the body was that of Crouch, who was the subject of the missing persons report. There were no physical signs of trauma.

The initial investigation has determined there weren’t any indications of criminality that took place.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service.

RCMP say 60-year-old Jack Crouch from Kenaston and a second man were travelling in the general area of Highway 15 between Watrous and Kenaston.

When their vehicle became stuck in the snow, the second man reportedly left to find help. The current whereabouts of Crouch are unknown.

Crouch was reported missing to RCMP around 3 p.m. The Highway Hotline earlier that day had listed roads in that area as not recommended for travel.

The Mounties said they don’t have a description of the vehicle, nor what Crouch was last wearing.

Crouch is described as 5-foot-10 and approximately 160 pounds with grey/brown hair and brown eyes.

The RCMP is asking people with yards or acreages in the area of Highway 15 between Watrous and Kenaston to check buildings and to report all abandoned vehicles.
