Transport Canada has already begun looking into the disruption on Regina’s Ring Road Tuesday after a CN train stopped and blocked traffic for more than hour.
The Operation of Movements rules for railways says that a train can’t block a crossing for more than five minutes. In a statement to News Talk Radio, Transport Canada says it takes the Canadian Railway Operating Rules very seriously and expects full compliance.
Transport Canada says it is discussing the incident with CN, and is looking “to verify compliance”.
CN Rail says a mechanical issue is what caused the standstill.
Regina Mayor Michael Fougere called the disruption unacceptable and said he would be discussing the incident with executive council and CN Rail.
