Ken Pagan has been banned from attending Toronto Blue Jays games because he did something stupid.
It was also dangerous and illegal. In a drunken moment, Pagan threw a beer can from an upper deck at Rogers Centre and it just missed a Baltimore Orioles outfielder. Knowing he did something wrong, and because his identity was being uncovered through social media, Pagan turned himself into the police so he could be charged with mischief.
Pagan’s story has been told in an excellent journalistic piece by CBC. Pagan lost his job with Postmedia. He has been chastised publicly. Yet his love of baseball still shines through, so does his remorse.
This all serves a purpose. Pagan’s story reminds fans they should never, ever throw anything at a sporting event. Anyone who does will be caught and prosecuted. And because Pagan has learned that lesson, he can be forgiven and should be allowed to attend baseball games again.
