Despite being under 24-hour watch, Mexico’s top drug lord managed to exploit two blind spots in his prison cell during his daring well orchestrated escape to freedom.
And newly released closed-circuit video shows how calmly and easily Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman did it.
The surveillance footage released Wednesday, shows Guzman sit down on his cell bed and change his shoes. He then walks to the shower in his cell, bends down behind the wall, and is never seen again.
Guzman, Mexico’s most notorious drug kingpin, slipped through a hole under the shower that led to a mile-long tunnel. He then rode a modified motorocyle on tracks to freedom, authorities said.
It’s the second time Guzman has escaped a maximum security prison. In 2001, he managed to break free while reportedly hiding in a laundry cart.
