It’s day two of Regina’s Folk festival, and Saturday’s warm, sunny weather is a welcome change from Friday’s cold night.
Friday opened and closed with Saskatchewan talent. It started out with a foot-stomping acoustic performance from Regina’s The Dead South, and ended with a bluesy rock’n’roll set from The Sheepdogs.
“Sheepdogs last night were really cool. I’ve been following them for a while and they’re definitely one of my favorite bands,” said Dylan Winchester.
Winchester is volunteering at Folk Fest this year, taking bands and artists around town getting them to where they need to be. According to him, it’s a pretty fun gig.
“Oh man, it’s great! You get to meet lots of really cool people,” said Winchester, adding that he met Saturday’s headliner Blue Rodeo.
“Man, those guys. They’re old but they know how to party,” said a laughing Winchester.
The Folk Fest is known for being a family event, in addition to being full blown festival.
“Oh it’s great. We’ve been coming here since these kids were babies,” said Judy Greenman-Barber, standing with her two children.
Aaron Warner has also been coming to Folk Fest for years.
“It’s a lot of fun coming and seeing people year after year, that you only really bump into during Folk Fest,” Warner said.
Now Warner comes to the festival with his two-year-old son, Jude – who might turn out to be a long-time Folk Fest fan.
“He’s definitely into the folk fest. He’s been dancing his butt of weekend,” said Warner.
The festival will wrap up Sunday night with a performance from Vance Joy.
