What would you do to be able to meet your favourite musician? Two girls from White City got to live that dream last week when they were chosen to go backstage to meet Taylor Swift.
“It felt so surreal. Looking back on it now, it honestly feels like a dream,” said Kayla Weir, 12.
Weir and her friend Claudia Leach, 14, were in Arizona for the show. They’re huge fans of the country, and now pop, star.
The two knew about “loft 89” – what the backstage area is called – and knew that at Taylor Swift’s shows some people are chosen to go backstage. So Weir and Leach dressed up as Swift’s cats for the show, hoping to be chosen.
They said they lost heart when they arrived at the stadium becuase there were so many people.
“It’s like winning the lottery.”
Leach said they sat down and she noticed Swift’s mom nearby. It was Swift’s mom who was passing out the backstage passes.
“She said that she picked us because we looked like we were having lots of fun, and just having the time of our lives, and looking like we really enjoyed ourselves.”
Leach said they missed the first half of the show because they were so excited.
“It was like insane. I was crying and I spilled my lemonade everywhere, and Kayla was screaming.”
Along with about 20 other people, Leach and Weir headed backstage after the show. They waited in an area they said looked like a New York apartment, with food and some of the outfits Swift has worn.
The girls gushed about the experience.
“She was so nice. She was super cute, and she was just so talkative,” said Leach.
Weir chimed in, “She was, like, so beautiful.”
Leach said she never thought she’d be able to have a conversation with Swift.
The two got to talk to the star, take some photos with her, and now have an amazing story to tell on the first day of school next week.
