The summer days of freedom and sleeping in are over and kids are back in class at elementary and high schools across Regina.
Outside Centennial School in northwest Regina, plenty of parents were on hand Tuesday morning to take the traditional first-day-of-school picture, and hug the younger kids.
Quinton Kuntz is in Grade 3 and he says teachers are the best part of going back to school. His favourite subject is definitely gym.
Sisters Cassy and Zoe Walters say they are pretty happy to be going back to school to see their friends.
“It’s fun to meet new friends,” said Zoe Walters, who is going into Grade 3. Her favourite subjects are math and spelling but her favourite part is playing with friends.
Eric Medernach says the best part of going back to school is recess when he can play tag with his friends.
“I like talking to my friends that I haven’t seen over summer and see if there’s any cool stories and stuff that they’ve done over the summer,” said Jacob Elgrin who is starting Grade 8.
He admits it was tough to get up for school on the first morning.
“I wasn’t used to it and I woke up this morning and I was yawning and tired,” he said.
Although speed limits of 40 km/h in school zones are enforced year round in the Queen City, the Regina Police Service is reminding drivers to slow down in school zones this week.
