RCMP have laid murder charges following a death on the Ahtahkakoop First Nation on Wednesday.
Dakota Hilliard John Knife is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection to the death of Tyrone Jacob Knife.
Shellbrook RCMP responded to a complaint of an injured man at the Ahtakakoop First Nation on Wednesday just before 2 a.m. Tyrone Knife from Ahtahkakoop First Nation suffered from an apparent gunshot wound. While being transported from the scene by EMS for further transport via STARS, the 21-year-old was pronounced deceased.
Nineteen-year-old Dakota Knife was arrested by Shellbrook RCMP at a nearby residence on unrelated matters. Further investigation identified Dakota Knife as a suspect in the death of Tyrone Knife.
The suspect and deceased are related to each other.
The investigation for the case is ongoing and an autopsy will take place at Saskatoon City Hospital on Friday, Sept. 4.
Knife made his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday, Sept 3. His next appearance will be on October 1, at 10 a.m. in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
