The University of Saskatchewan Huskies football home opener didn’t go as planned.
The number 10 ranked University of Manitoba Bisons came away with a 34-28 win.
Bisons freshman running back Jamel Lyles had a huge night with 250 all-purpose yards. 155 of those came on the ground while scoring a touchdown.
Huskie quarterback Drew Burko finished the night 24-of-46 for 318 yards and a touchdown while throwing four interceptions. Mitch Hillis was Burko’s top target hauling in seven passes for 91 yards.
Tyler Chow handled much of the work on the ground piling up 107 yards on 17 carries.
For the Huskies, it is the first loss to open the Canada West season since 2002.
Saskatchewan will visit the University of Alberta Golden Bears Sept.11.
