It was all over within an hour, but SaskPower’s head office in downtown Regina had to be evacuated Thursday morning due to what it called “a possible security risk”.
Just before 8 a.m., a potential security threat was called in to the Regina Police Service. They contacted SaskPower and, according to employees, there was a beeping throughout the building; a voice came over an intercom telling everyone to leave.
“The building was investigated, looked around, there were no credible threats to the building so everything was allowed back in,” said Heather Johnson with SaskPower’s communications team.
Around 8:40 a.m., employees were allowed to file back into the building.
Johnson said the evacuation went very smoothly. They have safety protocols in place so everyone knows where they need to go if something happens.
Employees waiting outside seemed in good spirits. Some said they’d heard it was a bomb threat, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
According to the Regina Police Service, there isn’t any evidence of “imminent harm” but they’re investigating.
Anyone with information that could help with their investigation into this incident is asked to contact Regina police at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
