Police believe alcohol was a factor after a man died when his ATV rolled near Manor, Sask.
Carlyle RCMP said a small group of people were riding ATVs on a trail near the town when it looks like the 41-year-old driver rolled his vehicle.
The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name will not be released.
The latest rollover brings this year’s total ATV-related deaths to six, and the second in a week. On Sept. 5, a 14-year-old girl was killed in another ATV rollover on a public trail in the Northern Provincial Forest northwest of Hudson Bay.
Between 2008-2009 and 2012-2013, more than 900 people in were hospitalized by an ATV accident, according to the Ministry of Health. The Saskatchewan ATV Association said there were eight ATV-related deaths in 2013.
According to the group’s latest newsletter, they have been calling on the government to mandate ATV registration, with a portion of the fees going to safety training and trail development.
