It may be the largest shop-built tank in Western Canada, and starting on Monday it’s taking a 550 kilometre convoy from Biggar to Estevan.
Over the past four months, AGI-Envirotank has melted steel to manufacture the massive tank. With a diameter of 34 feet and 10 inches the tank weighs 220,000 pounds, the equivalent of 45 full-sized pickup trucks.
The tank will be loaded on specialized trailers, including a push truck, a pull truck and a brake truck. Altogether, the convoy extends 205 feet, about the size of a hockey rink.
The convoy will travel through a high-load corridor and it’s expected to take about four days to get Estevan. The tank will be used by SaskPower as part of its carbon-capture program.
