Taser used after man allegedly tries to strike Regina officer with board

Regina police used a Taser during the arrest of a man who had allegedly threatened to hurt someone and tried to strike an officer with a large board.

The Regina Police Service was called at 1:05 p.m. Sunday after a man who had allegedly threatened to assault someone. Police were told the man was agitated, on his way to the 3600 block of Bishop Crescent, and might be under the influence of drugs.

Officers spotted the man walking south on Park Street, carrying a large board. Police told him to stop, but the man ignored them. As an officer approached the man, he allegedly turned and lifted the board as if to strike. That’s when the officer used his Conducted Energy Weapon, commonly known as a Taser, to subdue the man.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital for an assessment.

Patrick D. Flaman has been charged with assault with a weapon. The 38-year-old man will make his first court appearance on Oct. 21.
