Police connected two stolen vehicles and fake Mayday call to arrested two men in Medicine Hat.
On Sunday night, some workers near Maple Creek heard a muffled distress call over the radio in their vehicle and called RCMP.
This launched an investigation into where the plane was, where it could land, and ended up having police in Alberta actually shut down a portion of Highway 1 near Medicine Hat for more than an hour to serve as a makeshift runway.
Police later determined the Mayday call was a hoax.
RCMP later linked the call to two vehicles, a GMC Sierra and a Ford SRW, which were stolen from the area around the Medicine Hat airport. A gun was also reported stolen.
On Tuesday morning, RCMP reported that Medicine Hat police had arrested two people on Monday night in connection to the case.
