Mackenzie Art Gallery putting paintings outside

Regina’s downtown is turning into one big museum.

As part of the launch of Culture Days 2015, the MacKenzie Art Gallery unveiled a series of seven high-quality reproduction paintings that will be set up around the core for at least the next year.

“It really relates to our strategic initiative to bring art outside the walls of the gallery,” said Anthony Kiendl, executive director and CEO of the gallery.

Two of the paintings can be found in front of city hall. Four more are scattered around Victoria Park. One painting is also located in Wascana Park behind the art gallery.

The artworks are the creation of Francois Musin, Mary E. Wrinch, Harold Town, Piet Mondrian, Allen Sapp, Roy Kiyooka, and Wanda Koop. They feature images of a windmill, a pow-wow, and a ship on rough seas.

Kiendl said they’ll do their best to keep the artworks in good condition, even over the winter months.
