Volunteers were out on a Sunday gloomy morning to help make North Central shine after a neighbourhood clean up.
Crews in pickup trucks, supplied by Bennett Dunlop Ford, scoured the area for large waste that has been abandoned. The truck loads were brought back to the muddy parking lot which acted as a collection station. Volunteers then helped sort the garbage into bins so it could all be recycled or taken to the dump.
“There’s furniture, doors, shopping carts,” said Madison Hunt.
Although it was a rainy morning, the volunteers picked up garbage with smiles on their faces.
“Just really helping out the community, you know. (It) just feels good to help everybody out,” said Hunt.
The clean up was organized by the North Central Community Association. The association’s Alexis Larson explained it’s tough to get rid of the bigger waste if you don’t have a big truck. Today, they got that help from volunteers.
“If it’s nice to look at, it’s a lot nicer to be in,” said Larson.
