Construction of buildings you can’t live in has gotten a big boost in 2015, including a big chunk from the new stadium project.
Since the start of the year to the end of September, the City of Regina has approved $378 million worth of permits for non-residential construction. That’s compared to $221 million over the same period in 2012 – a difference of $157 million.
With six building permits issued in 2015, the stadium build was worth $112 million. Groundbreaking for the build was in June 2014, meaning building has been going for five months longer in 2015 than it was in the year before.
“Commercial and industrial property … has seen very strong performance this year, but I’m also glad to see a number of other major projects of many different types to get the green light,” said Mayor Michael Fougere in a news release.
Several permits were issued for work worth more than $1 million in September. They include a $4.7 million permit for the Orange Tree Village facility in Harbour Landing, three new shopping projects on Prince of Wales Drive valued at $6.5 million, and six office building alterations and additions valued at $19.7 million.
