The woman who died in a home in Saskatoon’s Willowgrove neighbourhood on Thanksgiving was renting the home at 1527 Paton Crescent with her husband, according to their landlord.
Officers responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. Monday about a woman needing medical assistance at the home. The 45-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and police are calling it a sudden death.
Dr. Pradosh Kumar Panigrahi said the couple had been renting from him since June, but did not pay their rent on Oct. 1. Panigrahi said the woman answered the door when he went to the house on Saturday to give notice for payment.
“I saw something on her face, her face was not so good. I think a small cut on her face maybe, and on the right hand or something,” he said. “I could tell there was something not good.”
Panigrahi said he left when the woman told him her husband wasn’t home. Then when he drove by the home Tuesday night, he noticed police tape surrounding the property.
When he asked what had happened, Panigrahi said police told him that the woman had died and that her husband was in custody.
But police say they won’t release any information until after an autopsy is done on Thursday.
