Saskatchewan driver’s licences are getting an upgrade.
On Thursday, SGI announced that Veridos Canada Inc. had been awarded a contract to produce the province’s licences and ID cards. The cards will now provide facial recognition and photo capture enhancement.
In a news release, SGI explains that the facial recognition technology enhances security, protecting people from identity theft and preventing people from getting multiple ID cards. SGI said it will also prevent suspended drivers from using a fake ID to get a licence.
Veridos Canada Inc. will begin producing the cards in April 2016.
