Drivers will have to put up with delays around the Highway 16 flyover for a little while longer.
The overpass was set to reopen at the end of October, but Doug Wakabayashi with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure said Monday on the Brent Loucks Show they are now aiming for mid-November to have everything finished .
He said the project fell behind schedule because the overpass was in far worse condition than they first thought.
“In this case the work on the bridge involved removing the asphalt from the driving surface and the inspecting the concrete underneath to see what needed to be repaired. Unfortunately the repairs that were required were more extensive than we initially anticipated.”
The overpass which handles 7,800 vehicles a day has been closed since the end of June.
The project which involved repaving the deck and concrete work was expected to be finished by late September to early October.
