Regina police used a taser on a man who refused to drop a butcher knife late Saturday night.
Officers were called to the 800 block of Retallack Street shortly before midnight on Saturday about a man who was causing problems at a home. The man was found on the 900 block of Athol Street with a butcher knife in his hand.
Police told the man to drop the knife, but he ignored the demand and began walking towards the officers “holding the butcher knife beside his head”.
An officer deployed his Conducted Energy Weapon – commonly known as a taser – which failed to stop the man. A second officer then deployed his taser. The man was taken into custody.
Walter Mervin Dieter, 37, now faces charges of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace. His first court appearance will be Dec. 23.
