Murder charge laid in fatal hit and run on Regina's Saskatchewan Drive

A young Regina man is facing a new charge in the death of a pedestrian in June.

Austin Donovan Travis Terry, now 21, was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm or death on June 24.

It’s alleged Terry was driving a vehicle that struck and killed 65-year-old David Phillips, who was crossing Saskatchewan Drive by Halifax Street.

On Monday, the Crown charged Terry with second-degree murder.

Crown prosecutors explain that second-degree murder is normally charged when it’s believed the accused intended to cause death. It was laid in this case because the Crown believed Terry acted reckless to where death can ensue.
