Star Wars fans will be able to see the newest installment in the series on a very big screen in Regina when it’s released in December.
The Imax Theatre at the Saskatchewan Science Centre will begin showing Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the date of its wide release, Dec. 18 (with sneak previews on Dec. 17) although it will only be in 2D.
Ryan Holota is with the science centre. He says they’re pumped about the movie.
“We thought it would be a really great fit for our audience.”
The Regina theatre will also be the only Imax theatre in Canada to show the movie on 15/70mm film, the type of film developed for Imax.
Holota said they are partnering with Imax and Disney to show the film.
Tickets went on sale Tuesday and by the afternoon, the first showing was already sold out.
This isn’t the first time Imax theatre in Regina has shown a movie on its first release. They did the same for The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
