A group of Regina-area investors have taken over St. Michael’s Retreat.
The group includes Darlene Hinks – a former City of Regina councillor – and well-known addictions counsellor, Rand Teed. They took over the property when the Franciscan Friars of Western Canada decided to end their operations.
St. Michael’s has been in operation for 52 years, but ended in October citing insufficient membership.
Yvonne Slobodian, part of the ownership group, said Teed had worked at the retreat for 10 years and wanted to continue his work, so he helped bring together the rest of the investors.
With the new owners comes new programming – things like yoga retreats, and stop smoking workshops.
“We have probably 50 things that we’re hoping to eventually schedule out here,” said Slobodian.
She also said they want to open it up more to the public, hoping government and corporate groups come to the retreats, as well as receptions and weddings.
