Get ready for winter: cold, wind and snow coming to southern Sask.

It could finally be time to shake the mothballs out of the winter jackets and ski pants – a special weather statement from Environment Canada is calling for cold, snow, and wind this week.
 
The statement covers all of southern Saskatchewan, from the US border stretching up to Meadow Lake.
 
“We’ve got a system that’s going to come across the mountains from the northwest, and that means it’s going to, kind of, break down the mild flow we’ve had and drag some very cold air in behind it,” explained CJME weather specialist John Wilson.
 
The statement calls for cold temperatures, an unspecified amount of snow, and high winds with gusts reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour. Wilson said that is going to create a lot of blowing snow.
 
The cold and snow is expected to hit on Wednesday and extend into Thursday. But Wilson said things will calm down for the weekend.
 
“By the time we get to Friday, things calm down considerably. It should be sunny with a lot less wind, however it will be on the colder side of what we’ve been used to lately, and I guess it’s about time.”
 
Wilson did mention another cold snap on Monday or Tuesday next week.
