City of Regina crews were out tackling Wednesday’s first bout of winter after snow and ice left treacherous conditions on some streets.
Chris Warren, manager of winter road maintenance, explains all 10 trucks were out sanding and de-icing.
“It could possibly take us up till the following morning through our day shift and through our night shift to ensure we had cycled through all our category one and two roads.”
Warren explains if the snowfall is too heavy, one treatment might not be good enough, meaning crews have to double back to those busier streets before tackling other areas.
The winter road maintenance plan begins Nov. 1 and thanks to the nice weather this fall, crews have kept busy in other ways.
“For the past couple of weeks we’ve been still filling potholes, maintaining our back alleys and our grid roads” explained Warren.
The proposed city budget allocates $9.1 million for winter road maintenance.
