RCMP in Kamsack are warning people to keep an eye out for counterfeit money.
Mounties say several counterfeit $100 bills have been passed off – or attempted to be passed off – at a few business in the Kamsack area. From a distance, they look like a real $100 bill. However, there are a few abnormalities.
- poor quality paper
- difference in size of the bill
- tape over the transparent strip.
- transparent strip shows a different denomination
- transparent strip should feel smooth
The fake bills in Kamsack have had different numbers in the transparent strip, and tape on the transparent window that can be felt by running your fingers over the bill.
Mounties remind businesses that they can refuse to accept a suspicious bill.
Businesses who believe they have received a counterfeit bill should handle it as little as possible, put it in an envelope and contact police.
Anyone with information on the fake bills is asked to contact the Kamsack RCMP at (306) 542-5560 or Crime Stoppers.
