Hales appeal in Bosse murder conviction starts Monday  

The man found guilty of murdering, burning and hiding the body of a Saskatoon mother 10 years ago is back in court Monday for his appeal in Regina.

Douglas Hales was convicted last year of killing Daleen Bosse on the May long weekend in 2004. A judge sentenced him to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.

In 2008, Hales led undercover officers to where he hid Bosse’s body north of the city. The officers were posing as low-level criminals in what is known as a ‘Mr. Big’ sting operation.

In the appeal, the defence argues there was evidence for reasonable doubt. They also state the judge should have allowed a new trial or new evidence to be entered when the Supreme Court changed the rules for evidence collected during a ‘Mr. Big’ stings mid way through the Hales trial.

Hales filed the appeal in January.

Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal has agreed to allow one news camera to videotape the appeal hearing.
