Saskatchewan’s safest drivers will be getting a bigger discount on their insurance.
The government has approved changes to SGI’s Safe Driver Recognition program that will be implemented by the middle of next year.
The changes will see the safety rating scale now go up to +25, giving the safest drivers a discount up to 25 per cent.
Drivers in the penalty zone will be paying more; penalties will double to $50 per point.
Other changes include drivers losing points for speeding convictions – but only convictions enforced by officers, not by photo-radar cameras.
All at-fault collisions will now result in loss of points determined on the seriousness of the crash. Collisions with claim payouts under $700 will see drivers losing four points, while collisions with payouts of $700 or more will lose six points.
