Christmas is coming early for drivers in Saskatchewan as prices at the pump dip below 90 cents per litre in Regina and Saskatoon.
Jason Toews is the co-founder of GasBuddy.com and he said this doesn’t come as a surprise considering the weather has turned.
“We typically see, outside of the summer-driving season, the weather is cold, days are getting short, we generally don’t do as much driving this time of year,” Toews said. “Also another big factor is crude oil prices are low ($42 a barrel).”
The last time gas was this low, around January 2015, the pumps hit an average low of 78 cents per litre.
“It was just for two or three days where it was that low then it went up to the mid-80s,” Toews said, adding Saskatchewan drivers can expect to see low gas prices at least until January 2016.
But Toews warns not to expect the average lows we saw last year.
“We could see low 80s but I don’t think we’ll see gas in the 70s because of the weak Canadian dollar,” Toews said.
The average low in Regina is 86.4 cents a litre. In Saskatoon, it’s 85.5 cents a litre. Costco in Saskatoon has the ultimate deal at 80.9 cents a litre.
