VIDEO: Kids help kick off Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle campaign

With loud renditions of classic Christmas carols, the Salvation Army enlisted a school-full of Regina children to kick off their Christmas Kettle campaign this year.
 
Major Bruce Mac Kenzie, core officer at the Salvation Army’s Haven of Hope, was there for the launch. He said they moved the event to it to a school to emphasize that it’s about making a difference in the community.
 
And they also wanted to celebrate kids as “vital change managers” in our communities.
 
“That’s not something they have to be a grown-up with a full-time job to do, in fact it’s something that we do every day. We make choices to look out for our neighbours and to help our neighbours, and that’s something that kids can do.”
 
The funds raised during the campaign are used for the charity’s Christmas programs, but also helps fund them for the rest of the year.
 
“We’ve very visible at Christmas time, but the Salvation Army is just as active all year around,” said Mac Kenzie.
 
Regina’s Salvation Army has a goal to raise $225,000 this year. Mac Kenzie said only half of their volunteer spots are full, so they’re looking for more people to help out.
