Saskatoon bakes the world's longest long john

Fifteen pounds of dough, 12 pounds of icing, and a 20-foot eavestrough.

That’s what went into creating the world’s largest long john doughnut at Nestor’s Bakery in Saskatoon.

The giant long john complete with colored sprinkles measured 19-feet two-inches long. Aside from its size, staff engineered a unique cooking method. Pails of hot oil were poured over the dough until the doughnut cooked.

As for what became of the doughnut, “It’s been eaten,” laughed Manager Carmen Dyck.

She said anyone that came into the store Tuesday was offered to take a bite. She said the idea has been in the works for over a year to help support the fundraising campaign for a new cafeteria for inner city youth.
