Regina Fire and Protective Services is warning the public about a rash of recent garage fires in the city.
Two happened Friday night in the downtown area — one on Halifax Street and the other on St. John Street. In addition to that, a garbage bin was set on fire but that was put out before it could spread.
Within the last week, there have been five garage fires and one garbage bin fire. In every case, a garbage bin has been set ablaze which then spreads to the garage.
“Certainly we’re concerned about this,” said fire marshall Randy Ryba. “We’ve alerted Regina city police to all of them.”
All the fires have occurred in the same area of Regina — between Winnipeg Street and Broad Street and 1st Avenue North and 9th Avenue North.
Ryba wants everyone living in that neighborhood to contact police if they see anything suspicious. He also wants people to protect their garbage and recycling bins and move them away from buildings.
